My pool light bulb went a few days ago! I managed to take it all apart and secured the bulb in order to show the regional pool store what I was looking to replace… Sounds easy at first glance …..

So, I went to my regional pool store out of convenience …. The kid at the cashier took a look at it and said “we don’t carry flood light bulbs.” I quickly pointed out that although it looked like a flood light, it was in fact a ‘spa and pool’ bulb. The young man yelled to another gentleman, who was clearly frustrated at the need to come down to look at it, and asked if they carried pool bulbs. He said “no”, but you should be able to get it at Lowe’s or Home Depot. Ok, I thought … but confused as to why a large pool center would not carry a pool bulb.

My confusion increased when the store manager approached me, after over hearing the conversation, and told me that the bulb could not be purchased at a Home Store; but, instead, I had to go to an electrical supply outfit (closest being 25 minutes away). He then went on to tell me that I was the fourth or fifth person to come in looking for such a product in recent time.

So, I had to ask with a taint of frustration …. “then why don’t you stock them?” Without hesitation, the manager said “because we don’t sell enough of them to make money!” OUCH!!!!!

Not wanting to drive 25 minutes for a light bulb, I figured that I would make one more stop, at the small local hardware and electrical supply place. I bring my lawn mower there to be serviced and screens to be repaired. They often have those hard-to-find parts.

The gentleman working the counter was not the owner, but indicated that he was familiar with pool parts. He looked at the bulb and came to the same conclusion as the other folks … Sorry, do not stock them.

However, the story does not stop there. The gentleman then grabbed an old electrical supply book out of a big pile and started to thumb through it. By this time, there were three other folks in the store, and he was working alone. Nevertheless, he was undaunted.

After unsuccessfully cross referencing the product in an attempt to find a possible in-stock alternative, he then made a phone call to whom I later found out was the electrical supplier for the store. He was not able to get through, but left a message. He then took my information. He told me that he should hear back from them tomorrow and would see if he could arrange to have one delivered.

NOW THAT’S SERVICE!!!

They forewarned us …. in fact, they spend $$$$ on radio ads telling us that our beloved Yellow Pages phonebook would be arriving in days!!! Long ago (in a not so for away place), this was an anticipated event…. but now???

So, our book arrived this morning …. and it promptly went into the recycling bin … did not even make it into the house!!

Major Water Line Breach Forces Water Boiling in 31 MA Communities

Water ban extends to drinking water, water used to bruch teeth, etc ….. DOES NOT extend to showering/bathing or washing dishes …

An ongoing breach in a major water line servicing communities east of Weston has been categorized as “catastrophic” and forced government officials to declare an EMERGENCY water boiling requirement for 31 communities.

Fortunately, the water is running into the Charles River and flooding problems are not expected at this time. However, water is said to be flowing into the Charles River at a rate of 8 million gallons per hour. There is no timeframe for a solution, and it is being indicated that the entire pipe will need to be drained before the problem can be identified.
